GCSU sweeps Fort Valley State

FORT VALLEY, Ga.-  The Georgia College & State University volleyball team picked up the road sweep against Fort Valley State University Monday (Sept. 18) evening.

The GCSU offense was led by right side Camryn Carlton and middle Abby Infante. Both had the hot swings with nine kills each. Rachel Machovec and Cadence Spilotros had the second most kills with five apiece. The outstanding offensive performance could not have been possible without Riese Johnson. She accounted for 19 of the 31 assists.

Libero Olivia Avarez highlighted the defense with an impressive 15 digs to tie her career high. Callie Miller had the second most digs on the night with 12, good for her career high. The Bobcats had a great night blocking as they had 12 block assists. Hayley Shepherd, Ella Collier, Brooke Roberts, Infante and Miller all had two each.

The Bobcats took the first set in nail biter fashion 27-25. They then showed a dominant performance in the second set picking up the 25-15 set victory. The Wildcats fought until the end, but the Bobcats prevailed winning the third set 25-23.

The Bobcats are back in action Sept. 26 with two matches. They will take on Talladega College at 2 p.m. and Clark Atlanta University at 4 p.m. with both games being held in Atlanta.
