MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Georgia College and State University soccer open the 2023 season with a 2-1 victory over the Auburn University at Montgomery.
GCSU improves to 1-0 as AUM falls to 0-2. The Bobcats return to Bobcat Field Wednesday (Sept. 6) for the 6 p.m. home opener against Newberry College.
The Bobcats fell behind early on a Warhawk goal in the first minute of play.
Aralyn Everett put GCSU on the board with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute of the contest. Everett knocked in a goal in the upper left corner of the goal. She finessed her way through the defense and took the shot with her left foot from about 25 yards out.
The contest was tied at 1 entering halftime.
Mia Palumbo scored the game winner for the Bobcats on 30-yard boot from the right half of the field. Everett's pass was perfectly placed for Palumbo to get around the defense and hit the back netting.
The GCSU defense was stellar in the contest only allowed five shots on goal.
Kassidy Fortin was put in goal at the 33-minute mark and recorded three saves.
