FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Georgia College & State University used back-to-back goals in a two minute span en route to a 3-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) University 3-1 at the Stephen Lee Complex.
The Bobcats improved to 4-2-2, while the Lions fell to 2-6-0. GCSU returns to Peach Belt Conference action Saturday (Sept. 30) when they travel to St. Augustine, Florida, for a 3:30 p.m match against No. 11 Flagler College.
Sara Schultz scored her first goal to give Georgia College a 1-0 lead at the 11:17 mark.
Sarah Mason played the ball back to Schultz, who knocked it in the center of the goal from 25 yards out. The Bobcats doubled their lead less than two minutes later as
Abbey Eison scored her first goal of the 2023 season.
Sarah King took the ball down the right side and crossed it to Eison, who deposited it in just inside the right post.
GCSU added an insurance goal midday through the second half as
Aralyn Everett scored her second goal of the season. Everett ran unabated down the right side of the field and then slotted the ball in the lower left corner of the net.
Emmanuel prevented the shutout with a goal less than three minutes remaining.
The Bobcats outshot Emmanuel 18-10, including a 10-6 margin on goal. GCSU collected 10 corner kicks compared to two for the Lions.
Madison Drake (four) and
Sarah Charney (one) combined to stop five shots in the Georgia College goal.
