Bobcats drop match with Lander in three

GREENWOOD, S.C.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team lost in three sets to Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon at Finis Horne Arena.

GCSU dropped to 10-7 and 0-3 in conference play, while the Bearcats improved to  15-2 and 4-0. 

The Bobcats lost the first set 25-12 and the second set 25-11. The Bearcats took the advantage heavily in the third set as GCSU fell 25-9. 

The Bobcats shuffled in several players through the match with the kills spread among seven players. Rachel Machovec and Camryn Carlton led the offense nabbing five kills apiece. The second most on the team came off the swings of Mary Kate Kotzin and Rosa Fisher both which had two. Riese Johnson was the lone setter in rotation and picked up all 17 assists. 

On the defensive side of the ball, GCSU had eight different players picking up digs. Callie Miller led the effort with five. Johnson had three while Ella Harper and Olivia Alvarez picked up two each. The Bobcats had two block assists one from Kotzin and one from Machovec. 

The Bobcats return home Tuesday (Oct. 3) to take on the University of South Carolina-Aiken in 6 p.m. PBC match inside the Centennial Center. Stay tuned to GCSUBobcats.com for live stats and broadcast links.
