MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season after a 3-1 victory over the Emmanuel (Ga.) University Wednesday (Sept. 6) evening at the Centennial Center.
The hot swings of the Bobcat offense got the job done as three players had double digit kills. Rachel Machovec led the charge with her second double-double of the season picking up a team high of 13 kills. Rosa Fisher and Callie Miller both added 10 kills apiece good for second most on the team.
The hot hitters had some help from setter Riese Johnson who claimed her second double-double of the season nabbing 30 assists.
The GCSU defense was lights out in their fourth match of the season with four players having double digit digs. Libero Alanis Bernis led the defense having 17 digs with Machovec right behind her with 15. Olivia Alvarez and Johnson both added 12 digs apiece. The great wall of Bobcats stood strong tonight with one solo block and 12 block assists. Fisher led the blocking effort with four block assists while Brooke Roberts and Mary Kate Kotzin added three of their own.
The Bobcats took set one 25-20 while hitting .459. GCSU also took set two but dropped set three while hitting .250 in both. The Bobcats capped off the match hitting .179.
GCSU hits the road Friday (Sept. 8) to Carrollton, Georgia, for their first road action of the season. The Bobcats kick off the West Georgia Tournament at noon against Saint Augustine's University then continues play at 4 p.m. against Concord University.
