No. 21 USC Aiken holds off Bobcats 93-86 in home opener

Brendan Rigsbee leads GCSU with career-high 30 points

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Jalen McCoy and Tehree Horn combined for 57 points as No. 21-ranked University of South Carolina-Aiken outlasted Georgia College & State University 94-86 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 6) afternoon at the Centernnial Center.

The Pacers improved to 10-2 overall and to 1-1 in the league, while the Bobcats, who were playing their home opener after playing their first 11 contests on the road, fell to 7-5 and 0-2. GCSU will face its second consecutive ranked opponent Wednesday (Jan. 10) when they travel to Dahlonega, Georgia, for a 7:30 p.m. PBC game against the No.7-ranked University of North Georgia.

The game was an offensive affair as both teams shot lights out, especially from three-point range. USC Aiken shot 60 percent (33-of-55) from the floor, including 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from long distance. The Bobcats connected on 29-of-57 (50.9 percent) of their shots, including 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from three-point range.

Brendan Rigsbee led the Bobcats with a career-high 30 points as he went 10-of-15 from the floor and hit three three-pointers. Rigsbee added seven free throws to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots. Rigsbee was one of four GCSU players in double figures. Jake Mooney, who sank five treys, added 17 points while Oscar Lynch added 13 points on the back of four three-pointers. AJ James finished with 10 points.

GCSU outscored USC Aiken's reserves 34-9. USC Aiken won the rebound battle by a 28-27 margin.
