Nighthawks rally past Bobcats 3-1

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The University of North Georgia scored twice in the second half as the Nighthawks rallied to defeat Georgia College & State University 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 16) evening at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Nighthawks improved to 8-1-1 overall and and to 3-0-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats fell to 4-6-3 and 0-3-2. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Oct. 19) with a 1 p.m. home league encounter with Lander University. 

GCSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 12:52 mark on Ava Martin's fourth goal of the campaign. Martin's strike, which was set up by a through ball down the right side by Taylor Salvaggio, sailed into the top left corner of the net.

The Nighthawks leveled the match at 1 five minutes later on a chip shot from 25 yards out by Chloe Diaz that went into the upper right corner. The goal was set up on a Bailey Oetinger. 

UNG took the lead at the 60:25 mark on Adleigh Wheeler's penalty kick was successful and added an insurance goal in the 88th minute n a Darby Olive goal that trickled into the goal.

North Georgia led GCSU in shots 11-7 (8-5 on goal) and corner kicks 4-2. The contest was a physical affair as the teams combined for 29 fouls and five cautions.

Maddie Drake recorded five saves between the pipes for the Bobcats.
