Auburn Montgomery edges GCSU 84-76 in home opener

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Chappelle Whitney scored 22 points to lead Auburn University at Montgomery past Georgia College & State University 84-76 in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Nov. 13) at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats fell to 0-3 overall after dropping their home opener, while the Warhawks improved to 2-1. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Nov. 16) with a 4 p.m. contest against Converse University in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Georgia College jumped out to a 15-3 lead after a jumper in the paint from Tony Carpio with 13:29 remaining. Zyair Greene, who led the Bobcats with 28 points, hit back-to-back-to-back three-pointers during the early Bobcat run. Greene was 8-of-16 from the field in the contest, including 7-of-11 from long distance.

AUM battled back to take a 38-36 lead at the half. The Warhawks pushed their advantage out to 14 points (76-62) with 6:25 left, but the Bobcats used a 12-2 run to close within four points (80-76) after Luke Krawczyk hit two free throws with 67 seconds to play. It would be the closest GCSU would get the remainder of the game.

Aidan Kudlas was the only other Bobcat in double figures with 12 points. James Nichols III and Carpio contributed eight points apiece. Dallas Clayton and Kudlas each pulled down seven rebounds, while Greene and Krawczyk had six apiece. AUM converted 15 GCSU turnovers into 20 points.
