DUE WEST, S.C. | Evie DePetro scored a career-high 20 points to lead four Georgia College & State University women's basketball players in double figures as the Bobcats downed Erskine College 80-48 Wednesday (Nov. 13) evening at the Galloway Center.
The Bobcats improved to 3-0, while the Flying Fleet slipped to 1-1. GCSU returns to the Centennial Center Saturday (Nov. 16) where they will host Newberry College in its home opener.
GCSU, which only trailed in the game for 23 seconds, used a 10-1 run to open up a 15-8 lead after two free throws from
Jada Warren with 1:15 left in the first quarter.The Bobcats reeled off nine unanswered points to take a 16-point lead (28-12) after Cam Jones layup midway through period two. Erskine got as close as six points (41-35) midway through the third quarter, but the Bobcats closed out the quarter on a 14-3 run to take an 18-point lead (57-39) after a
Deshona Gaither layup.
Georgia College outscored the Flying Fleet 23-9 in the final stanza as the final score represented the largest lead for the Bobcats, which shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the field.Â
DePetro hit 7-of-12 from the field, while Gaither tallied 13 points.
Hannah Cail and
Ashyia Willis each contributed 11 points in the victory. Warren pulled down 12 rebounds for the Bobcats, who outrebounded Erskine 51-35.Â
