MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Evie DePetro scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack for Georgia College & State University as the Bobcats defeated Newberry College 79-52 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday (Nov. 16) afternoon inside the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats with the victory in their home opener improved to 4-0, while the Wolves fell to 1-3. GCSU continues the homestand Wednesday (Nov. 20) when they host Shorter University at 6 p.m.
GCSU jumped out to a 9-0 before Newberry scored its first point. The Bobcats took a 17-3 lead after the first quarter as the Wolves hit just one of their 15 field goal attempts (6.7 percent). The Bobcats opened up a 21-point lead (26-5) after a
Cierra Foster short jumper with 7:05 left before intermission. The closest the Wolves would get the remainder of the game is 15 points (34-19). Georgia College led by as many as 27 points (64-37) after a
Miracle Parker free throw with 9:05 left in the fourth quarter ended a 12-0 GCSU run.
DePetro connected on three pointers as she led the Bobcats with 14 points.
Hannah Cail finished with eight points, while
Rose Bone had seven. GCSU got scoring from 15 of its 16 players.
Jada Warren led the Bobcats with 15 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, while
Miracle Parker had six, while
Camryn James added five more. GCSU held a 52-38 lead on the boards. GCSU registered 21 assists on 27 baskets led by four players - Warren, Cail, James and Foster - with four each. Georgia College also took care of the ball as they only turned the ball over four times.
