MILLEDGEVILLE Ga. | Evie DePetro and Ashyia Willis combined for 33 points Georgia College & State University defeated Fort Valley State University 57-50 in a non-conference women's basketball game Tuesday (Nov. 26) night at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats won their second in a row with the victory and improved to 6-1, while the Wildcats fell to 2-3. GCSU continues their season with a 5 p.m. game at Southern Wesleyan University Wednesday (Dec. 4) in Central, South Carolina.
Georgia College and Fort Valley State kept things close throughout the first quarter, trading field goals for the lead, with the Wildcats leading the Bobcats 19-17 at the first break. The second quarter started slow with almost four minutes running off the clock before the first field goal. The Bobcats started to create a lead for themselves with a Chandler Davis jump shot, giving them a four-point lead (30-26) over the Wildcats with 1:43 left before halftime.
DePetro continued to make three point shots, with three consecutive three point field goals in a little over a minute early in the third quarter to give the Bobcats a 12-point lead (44-32) with 5:58 left. The closest the Wildcats would get the rest of the way was seven points.
DePetro finished with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point range, while Willis collected 15. Jada Warren led the Bobcats with 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Miracle Parker, Camryn James and Natalia Bolden each grabbed five rebounds as the Bobcats outrebounded the Wildcats 50-45. Parker also dished out four assists.
