GCSU rallies in second half for 2-1 PBC Tournament quarterfinal win over Clayton State

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University scored twice in the second half as the Bobcats rallied for a 2-1 victory over Clayton State University in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday (Nov. 9) at Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Bobcats, who are seeded fourth, won their fifth consecutive match as they improved to 9-6-3, while the fifth-seeded Lakers ended their season with an 8-3-6 ledger.

GCSU advances to the semifinals Friday (Nov. 15) in Columbus, Georgia, where they will face top seed Columbus State University. More information about the semifinals will be announced Monday (Nov. 11) by the conference office. CSU, which is ranked No. 2 nationally, downed the University of South Carolina-Beaufort 9-2 in the quarterfinals. It will be the first appearance in the semifinals for the Bobcats since the 2018 tournament.

Carrie Consolino gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on her 19th goal of the season. Consolino's goal came from the top of the box and into the left corner of the net.

GCSU equalized the match a 1 on Ava Martin's strike at the 57:27 mark. Martin's fifth goal of the season came after Lily Markey's initial shot was turned away by the Clayton State keeper off the crossbar and landed at Martin's feet and into the left corner of the net.

It stayed that way until Aralyn Everett gave the Bobcats a 2-1 lead at the 82:34 mark. Sydney Charles' initial shot was saved by the Laker keeper, but she wasn't able to corral it and led to Everett putting her fourth goal of 2024 in the bottom left corner.

GCSU outshot Clayton State 19-12, but led 11-4 on shots on goal. The Bobcats led in corner kicks 6-3.

Maddie Drake recorded three saves for the Bobcats, while Tuva Etterlid had nine stops.
