NEWBERRY, S.C. | The Newberry College women's tennis team picked up a 5-2 decision over No. 22 Georgia College & State University Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center.
The Wolves improved to 3-1, while the Bobcats fell to 2-3. GCSU returns to the Centennial Center Tennis Courts Monday (Feb. 19) with a 2 p.m. first serve against Clark Atlanta University.
Newberry opened the match by earning the doubles point.
Chiara Santoro and
Ashley Bentz teamed up for a 6-2 win for the Bobcats at No. 2 doubles.
GCSU opened up a 2-1 advantage as Santoro and Bentz claimed the first two singles matches. Santoro registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Bentz took a 6-1,7-5 victory at No. 3 singles. Newberry clinched the win as they took the other four singles contests.
