MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University picked up its first men's tennis victory of the season with a 4-3 decision over Newberry College Tuesday (Feb. 20) afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats, who have played in four matches that have been decided by a 4-3 score, improved to 1-5, while the Wolves slipped to 1-5. GCSU returns to action with an 11 a.m. home match Saturday (Feb. 24).
GCSU started the match up 1-0 after winning the doubles point.
Gabe Cizek and
Jorge Robinson blanked their opposition 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and
Sebastian Nuñez and
Enzo Sergi took No. 3 doubles by a score of 6-3.
The Bobcats expanded their lead to 3-0 as
Rodrigo Pérez Crespo won his No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-0 and Sergi quickly followed with his own 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5. Newberry claimed the next two singles matches to pull within 3-2, but Robinson rallied for a three-set victory for GCSU to clinch the match. Robinson dropped the first set 6-1 before taking the next two with identical 6-4 scores.
