MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Baseball wins the series finale with the University of North Georgia in 11 innings, 8-5.
GCSU improved to 7-8 overall and UNG fell to 9-3. Georgia College is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 28 in Lexington, S.C. to take on the University of Mount Olive at 3:00 p.m.
North Georgia took the lead in the first inning pushing two runs across and then grew their lead to 5-0 on a three run fourth inning. The Bobcats hung two scoreless inning on defense then in the bottom of the sixth inning put up a five spot to tie the game.
Matthew Mebane reached base via a fielder's choice and he came around to score on a
Braeden Smith triple down the right field line for the first run of the ball game. He would then come around to score on a single up the middle from
Mason Poole to make it 5-2.
Cam McNearney plated three more runs to tie the game. Two came around to score on his single to center field with the third coming around on a Nighthawk throwing error to make it 5-5. The game remained tied and went into 11 innings.
Gabriel Wuerth kicked off the inning with a lead off.
Hank Noonan reached via a fielders choice and advanced to second and a walk drawn by
Mitch Cowan. McNearney walked it off on a three run blast past the scoreboard to push the Bobcats passed the Nighthawks, 8-5, to win the game and the series.
McNearney led 2-for-5 on the afternoon with five RBI, a run scored and the walk-off home run.
Matthew Mebane also had a 2-for-5 performance and he came around to score. Wuerth went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Lex Kenny got the start on the mound for GCSU pitching three innings with one earned run scoring on four hits.
Aidan McConnell was the first reliever throwing two and a third innings pitched with two earned runs scored on three hits.
Mason Brown picked up two thirds innings with no runs and no hits to his boxscore.
John Raines closed the game and got the win on the mound. Raines (2-1) pitched four and two thirds innings fanning nine batters with no runs scoring.
