MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball kicks off the 2024 season with double header split against Emmanuel University (Ga.). Georgia College took the first game 3-1 and the Lions took game two 6-2.
Both GCSU and EU finished the day with a 1-1 season record. The two squads will return to action to complete the series Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10 am.
In game one of the double header, the Bobcats scored three runs on six hits to take the 3-1 win. Georgia College knocked in two runs in the third inning. The first came on a
Kam Caldwell double to left center field to score
Emily Hobbs who reached on a fielder's choice Caldwell would then come around to score on a
Jessica Owens single up the middle. The final run of the game came on a Hobbs' homerun launched over the left field wall in fifth inning.
Hobbs led the team in game one with a 2-for-3 day including two runs scored and an RBI. Caldwell also had a 2-for-3 day adding a run scored and an RBI.
Jana Shellhorse got the start and the in in the circle for the Bobcats. Shellhorse pitched a complete game only allowing one earned run on seven hits and a strikeout.
In the second game of the day, the Bobcats scored two runs on three hits in the 6-2 loss.
Shea Zweifel played a part in both runs scored for GCSU. She put the first run on the board in the second inning on a moon shot over the left field fence. She then reached base on a double and came around to score on an
Emily Hutcheson double.
Zweifel was the lone hitter in game two with multiple hits in her 2-for-3 performance.
Shelby Jones got the start and the loss in the circle. Jones threw four and two thirds innings with six earned runs scoring on eight hits and a strikeout.
Kaitlyn Anders pitched the final two and a third innings allowing zero runs on no hits.
