MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Baseball hang 14 runs on the University of West Georgia in the midweek 14-5 win.
GCSU improved to a perfect 4-0 on the young season while UWG fell to 3-1. The Bobcats will return to action on the road at Eckerd College for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
Georgia College took the early lead scoring three runs in the second inning for the 3-0 lead. Gabe Wuerth drove in
Cam McNearney for the first run of the game on a single to right field.
Brent Burford drew a bases loaded walk to push the next run around to score.
Evan Cowan rounded out the second inning scoring on an RBI single.
In the fifth inning they then would plate one to counter two scored by West Georgia to make the game 4-2 after five. The lone run of the inning was scored on a McNearney double to plate
Matthew Mebane.
The Wolves hung three runs on the Bobcats in the sixth inning to take the 5-4 lead, their first of the game. GCSU then countered with a two run bottom half to take back the lead at 6-5.
Mason Poole launched a ball over the left field fence for a two RBI double putting the Bobcats back in front to ultimately secure the win.
Both teams went scoreless in the seventh then Georgia College had a breakout eighth inning to put the game away at 14-5. Mebane,Poole, and Bellflower all picked up RBI singles to plate four total runs.
Braeden Smith and
Matthew Cassandra both knocked doubles to plate the other four runs.
Poole led the offense on the evening with a 4-for-5 performance with three RBI, two runs scored and a round trip shot. Wuerth had a successful day at the plate with a 3-for-4 day including two runs scored and an RBI.
Evan Cowan had a 2-for-3 performance with three walks, three runs scored and an RBI.
