GRANITEVILLE, S.C. | Matthew Mebane drove in four runs to lead Georgia College & State University to a 7-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over the University of South Carolina-Aiken Friday (March 29) afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Bobcats won their six consecutive game as they improved to 20-11 overall and to 11-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers fell to 8-25 anf 4-10. The teams will pay their final game in the weekend set at 1 p.m. Saturday (March 30).
Mebane opened the scoring with RBI single through the right side in the first inning.Â
It would stay that way until the seventh when the Bobcats broke the game open with a four-run inning.Â
Gabriel Wuerth drove in a run on a ground out, Mebane drove in another on a fielder's choice and
Braeden Smith added a sacrifice fly to center field.
After the Pacers scored a run in the eighth, GCSU added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a Mebane double to left-center field.
John Luke Glanton (5-3) earned the win with seven innings, allowing eight hits and striking out three.Â
The Bobcats only mustered five hits with Mebane collecting two of them. Wuerth,
Brandon Bellflower and
Mason Poole had a hit each.
