No. 39 Florida Southern holds off Bobcats 5-2

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The 39th-ranked Florida Southern College men's tennis team defeated Georgia College & State University 5-2 in a non-conference match Thursday (March 7) afternoon.

The Mocs improved to 8-3, while the Bobcats fell to 3-8. GCSU returns to action Sunday (March 10) when they travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, for a 2 p.m. match against Converse University.

Florida Southern took 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles point, although GCSU's Rodrigo Pérez Crespo and Noé Villen lost their No. 1 doubles match 7-5 in a tiebreaker.

The Mocs claimed four of the six singles matches. The Bobcats' Jorge Robinson upset No. 21-ranked George Russell 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 1 singles. Perez Crespo recorded the other GCSU point at No. 4 singles with a 6-7 (6) 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) victory.
