ALBANY, Ga. | The 28th-ranked Georgia College & State University baseball team scored five runs over their final three at-bats as the Bobcats defeated Albany State University 7-2 Wednesday (April 10) afternoon at the West Campus Baseball Field.
The Bobcats won their fourth consecutive game as they improved to 24-13 overall, while the Golden Rams fell to 25-9. GCSU returns to action Friday (April 12) when they host Lander University in a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game at John Kurtz Field.
GCSU opened up a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and fifth innings.
Gabriel Wuerth led off the game with a double to left field and later scored on
Matthew Mebane's ground out. The Bobcats scored their run in the fifth as
Mason Poole singled and scored on Wuerth's double to right field.
The Golden Rams scored twice in the sixth to knot the score at 2.
Georgia College responded with two runs in the seventh. Wuerth drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk before Poole, who reached on a single, scored on a wild pitch.
The Bobcats broke the game open with three more runs in the ninth to take a 7-2 lead. Wuerth stroked a RBI single to left and
Brandon Bellflower followed with a two-run double to right.
Wuerth left the Bobcats with three runs and drove in three runs. Two of Wuerth's hits went for doubles, while Poole also collected two hits in the GCSU win.
Reliever
Lex Kenny (2-1) picked up the win with 2.1 scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and struck out four.
