Wolves rally late for 7-6 win over Bobcats

CARROLLTON, Ga. | The University of West Georgia scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Wolves a 7-6 non-conference baseball victory over Georgia Coillege & State University Tuesday (April 16) afternoon at Cole Field.

The Wolves improved to 20-21, while the Bobcats fell to 24-17. GCSU steps back into Peach Belt Conference action when they open up a three-game set Friday (April 19) with 6 p.m. contest against Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.

Matthew Mebane gave the Bobcats the early 1-0 lead with a first inning RBI doubles to right-center field. West Georgia opened up a 5-1 lead after scoring a run in the first and fourth innings and adding three more in the second.

Brandon Bellflower started the GCSU comeback with a RBI single through the left side in the fifth. The Bobcats added two more runs an inning later as Landon Armstrong drove in one with a double down the left field line and Braeden Smith added an RBI single to left.

Georgia College tied the game at 5 on Bellflower's solo homer to center field in the seventh inning. It was his eighth long ball of 2024. The Bobcats took a 6-5 lead later in the frame on Hank Noonan's double to left-center field.

Reliever Caden Tillman (0-1) absorbed the loss.

The Bobcats collected 12 hits with Smith and Bellflower led the way with three hits apiece. Armstrong contributed two hits.
