COLUMBUS, Ga.- Georgia College & State Baseball kicks off series opener at Columbus State University with a 5-1 victory.
GCSU improved to 25-17 overall and 15-7 in the Peach Belt Conference. CSU fell to 27-18 on the season and 13-9 in conference play. To avoid incoming weather, the two squads will conclude the series with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20.
The Bobcats jumped on the Cougars early hanging a two spot in the first inning.
Gabriel Wuerth reached base on a single to start the game.
Brandon Bellflower took his first offering over the right field fence for a two-run shot. Georgia College pushed three more runs around in the fourth inning to solidify the win.
Matthew Mebane started the inning with a one base knock and came around to score on a CSU miscue for the 3-0 lead.
Evan Cowan marked run number four for the Bobcats as he came around to score on a
Cam McNearney sacrifice fly.
Mason Poole finished off the GCSU scoring with a single through the right side to plate
Mitch Cowan. Columbus State scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning on a solo home run.
The Bobcats had a stellar offensive day with 12 hits. Wuerth led the effort with a superb 4-for-5 day and a run scored. Poole and Mebane both has 2-for-4 days with Poole having an RBI and Mebane having a run scored.
Braeden Smith rounded out the multi-hit batsmen on a five 2-for-5 day with a double.
John Luke Glanton pitched a complete nine inning web gem only throwing 91 pitches. He picked up the complete game win with only one run scoring on nine hits and a single strikeout.
