MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University collected 14 hits and took advantage of seven Claflin University errors as the Bobcats took a 13-1 Peach Belt Conference baseball decision over the Panthers in seven innings Friday (April 5) evening at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats improved to 21-13 overall and to 12-4 in the PBC, while the Panthers fell to 1-31 and 0-16. The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (April 6).
After Claflin pushed across a run in the top of the first inning, GCSU took the lead for good with three runs in its half of the inning. Mebane drove the first run in on a grounder before
Braeden Smith laced a two-run homer to right field to give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead. It was his third of the season.
Georgia College added three more runs an inning later as
Mason Poole had an RBI double, while
Hank Noonan and Meban added run-scoring hits.
Brandon Bellflower stroked his sixth homer - a solo shot to right-center field - in the fourth to give GCSU a 7-1 lead.
The Bobcats broke open the game with a six-run sixth inning as they had five hits and used four Claflin miscues to open up a 13-1 advantage. Only one of the six runs were earned.
Gabriel Wuerth drove in a run with a single to center and Poole added a two-run single to center.
John Luke Glanton (6-3) earned the complete-game victory, allowing just four hits and striking out eight.
Wuerth led the hit parade with three, while Bellflower,
Mitch Cowan, Poole and Noonan registered two each. Every GCSU starter but one had a hit against the Panthers. Poole drove in three runs, while Mebane and Smith had two apiece.
