Martin leads Bobcats to 4-1 win over Knights in home opener

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Ava Martin scored a goal and assisted on another one as the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team defeated Middle Georgia State University 4-1 on a rainy Wednesday (Sept. 11) evening at the Bobcat Soccer Field.

The Bobcats improved to 2-1-0 with the victory in their home opener, while the Knights slipped to 1-4-0. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Sept. 14) with a 5 p.m. road contest against Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia.

Martin got GCSU in the scoring column just 13 minutes into the match. Morgan Amrozowicz crossed the ball from the right side and found Martin at the left post and she buried it in the goal. Martin set up the Bobcats' next goal at the 26:54 mark. Martin took the original shot that the MGSU goalkeeper couldn't corral and Adriana Duque knocked the rebound in for a 2-0 lead.

After the Knights scored an own goal right before halftime, the Bobcats made it 3-1 as Ali Amrozowicz collected a loose ball in the box and booted it in  the bottom left corner of the net at the 48:51 mark. Abbey Eison added an insurance goal at the 76:34 mark on a rebound of Sara Schultz's initial shot.

GCSU dominated the Knights in the shots column 23-2, including a 15-1 margin on goal. GCSU also held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. GCSU goalkeeper Ella Hayes tallied a save between the pipes.
