MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Florida Southern College got a late goal to edge Georgia College & State University 1-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 18) afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Moccasins improved to 3-1-1, while the Bobcats slipped to 3-2-0. GCSU returns to action Saturday (Sept. 21) when they open its Peach Belt Conference schedule in Columbus, Georgia, with a 1 p.m. contest against No. 6 Columbus State University.
It was a tale of two halves. Florida Southern controlled most of the play in the opening 45 minutes as they outshot Georgia College 9-1. However, it was the opposite in the second half as the Bobcats outshot the Mocs 11-3.
Florida Southern scored the lone goal in the match at the 82:55 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Alison Jenkins sent in a long cross from the right side into Brinley Beoriegui at the left post and she slotted the ball into the left side of the net.
The team each recorded 12 shots and both had six shots on goal. GCSU goalkeeper
Ella Hayes tallied five saves in net for the Bobcats. Georgia College took the only two corner kicks in the match.
