COLUMBUS, Ga. | Columbus State University broke up a scoreless draw with four goals in the second half as the No. 6 Cougars shut out Georgia College & State University 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference women's soccer opener Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex.
The Cougars improved to 6-0-0 overall and to 1-0-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats slipped to 3-3-0 and 0-1-0. Georgia College steps out of conference play Monday (Sept. 23) when they host Auburn University at Montgomery at 3 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Field.
The battled to a scoreless draw through the first 58 minutes before Emma Beddow found the back of the net off a Lauren Barnes assist. Sophia Leal doubled the lead seven minutes later for the Cougars. CSU added its last two goals in the final five minutes.
Columbus State outshot GCSU 27-6 and held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Adriana Duque and
Ali Amrozowicz each had two shots for the Bobcats.
Ella Hayes recorded a career-high nine saves in goal for the Bobcats.
