Bernis becomes all-time digs leader for Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Alanis Bernis became the Georgia College & State University all-time digs leader, but Emmanuel (Ga.) University defeated the Bobcats 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15 in a non-conference volleyball match Thursday (Nov. 13) evening at the Centennial Center.

The Lions improved to 19-9 overall, while the Bobcats slipped to 13-15. GCSU travels to Macon, Georgia, Friday (Nov. 14) for a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match against Middle Georgia State University.

Bernis, a senior defensive specialist/libero from Auburn, Georgia, registered 17 digs against the Lions, bringing her four-year total to 1,626. Bernis eclipsed the previous record of 1,622 held by Jordyn Moellering (2017-21). Bernis entered the match ranked 26th in NCAA Division II statistics and second in the PBC with 485 digs, and 46th nationally and first in the conference in digs per set (4.85).

Riese Johnson and Milla Smith each registered eight digs, while Avery Huyck added seven more. Huyck led the Bobcats with six kills, while Nya Warren and Camryn Carlton each posted five. Johnson distributed 15 assists, while Warren added three total blocks (two solo, one assist).
