YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Georgia College & State University had 12 different players in the scoring column including five in double figures as the men's basketball team soared past Shorter University 99-70 Friday (Nov. 14) afternoon in the Conference Challenge hosted by Young Harris College inside the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Bobcats improved to 1-0 and will face 14th-ranked Lincoln Memorial University on the final day of the Challenge at 1 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15). The Hawks fell to 0-1.
C.J. Jones,
Luke Krawczyk and
Austin Mosby-Weems each had 12 points as the Bobcats led for most of the contest, while
Khalil Green and
Gabe Bolden pumped in 11 apiece.
Devin McClain and
James Nichols III nearly registered double figures as each dropped in nine.
The Bobcats, who shot 51.4 percent (36-of-70) from the floor, took the lead for good at 11-10 on a Jones' three-pointer with 15:37 left in the first half. GCSU, which connected on 12 three-pointers, pushed the lead to double figures at 41-31 on a Krawczyk layup with 2:58 before intermission. The Bobcats, who had 38 points in the paint and tallied 21 second-chance points, accelerated the lead to 20 (58-38) points on another Krawczyk layup four minutes in the final half.Â
GCSU, which held a 48-28 edge on the boards, took its largest lead at 35 points (99-64) on a
Mason Etter long-distance shot with 71 ticks left. McClain led the Bobcats with seven rebounds, while Krawczyk and Mosby-Weems each pulled down five apiece. Jones and Nichols contributed four rebounds each.
The Bobcats registered 24 assists with Bolden leading the way with five. Green distributed four, while Etter and
Aidan Kudlas had three apiece.
