MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Devin McClain scored a career-high 19 points to lead six Georgia College & State University players in double figures as the Bobcats opened their home men's basketball schedule with a 95-71 non-conference victory over Thomas (Ga.) University Tuesday (Nov. 25) afternoon at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats improved to 2-2, while the Night Hawks remained at 2-6 as this was an exhibition for the NAIA institution. GCSU remains at home as they host Converse University in a 4 p.m. contest Saturday (Nov. 29).
GCSU broke open the game early as they put together a 17-4 run to open up a 17-point lead (27-10) on a
Khalil Green three-pointer with 10:37 left in the first half. The Bobcats extended their advantage to 18 points (40-22) on a
Luke Krawczyk jumper with 4:19 left before halftime.
Thomas got within seven points (42-35) at intermission and closed to within three points (47-44) just three minutes into the second half on a Nhine Wills layup, but that would be as close as the Night Hawks would get. Back-to-back three-pointers from
C.J. Jones pushed the GCSU lead back to 15 points (62-47) four minutes later. The Bobcats took their largest lead (21 points - 87-66) on two McClain free throws with 3:24 left.
The Bobcats shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field and doubled the Night Hawks 52-26 on the glass,
McClain was 7-of-11 from the field and connected on three three-pointers and five rebounds. Jones finished with 15 points, while
Julian Walker recorded a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, both career highs. Krawczyk, Green and
Austin Mosby-Weems each tallied 10 points.
Mason Etter collected eight rebounds, while Mosby-Weems had six.
Aidan Kudlas tallied five rebounds and five assists.
