FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. | Khalil Green led five Georgia College & State University players in double figures with 29 points as the Bobcats downed Young Harris College 90-82 in a men's basketball game Saturday (Dec. 20) afternoon on the first day of the Christmas in the Springs Classic hosted by Emmanuel (Ga.) University,
The Bobcats posted their seventh consecutive victory as they improved to 8-2. GCSU will face Emmanuel at 3 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 21). The Mountain Lions fell to 6-4.
GCSU dominated the first half as they led 51-25 at the break. The Bobcats were on fire shooting in the opening 20 minutes as they connected on 16-of-27 attempts (.593), including 7-of-16 (.438) from three-point range. Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions were held to 27.0 percent shooting (7-of-26) in the first half.
The Bobcats took control of the game early as they put together a 15-2 run to open up a 23-8 lead on a
Cam James layup with 10:41 left in the first half. GCSU didn't slow down as they expanded its lead to 24 points (41-17) on an old-fashioned three-point play from
Aidan Kudlas with 4:05 left. The Bobcats took their largest lead of the game - 29 points (54-24) - on a
Tony Carpio dunk after an
Oscar Lynch steal with 17:51 remaining.

Green got most of his points from the charity stripe as he hit 19 free throws out of 23 attempts. The 19 free throws made set a single-game record by a Bobcat, surpassing the 17 that Terrell Harris sank against Emmanuel in 2015, while the 23 attempts also set another record, surpassing the 21 Mark Stallings had against Southern Tech in the 1970-71 season. The 36 free throws made by the Bobcats was just two off the school record and the 46 attempts were six shot of the GCSU record.
Devin McClain and James each tallied 11 points in the win, while Carpio and
Gabe Bolden had 10 apiece. Kudlas had seven points, six rebounds, five assists and two assists. Carpio and
Julian Walker had five rebounds each.
