MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The bats came alive and stayed alive in both games of the No. 13 Georgia College & State University baseball doubleheader against Lynn University Friday (Feb. 14) as they won 11-0 and 7-5 at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats continue to ride their win streak, increasing to five games and climbing to 5-4, while the Fighting Knights fell to 4-5. GCSU will try and sweep the series Saturday (Feb.14) beginning at 2 p.m.
In game one of the day, John Luke Glanton (2-0) was practically unhittable, as he threw six innings giving up just five hits and no runs. He added four strikeouts in the contest to just one walk.
GCSU scored 11 runs in just four innings, starting with Gabe Wuerth who opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run double. The game broke open in the bottom of the fourth as Carson Phillips ripped a three-run homer over the left field wall - his first of the season - and increasing the Bobcats lead to nine.
Along with Phillips, Charlie Banks cranked a no doubt home run in the bottom of the fifth that just barely stayed fair down the left field line. It was his first long ball of 2025.
Four Bobcats - Ben Hamacher, Phillips, Matthew Mebane and Wuerth - collected at least two hits. Phillips and Wuerth combined for seven of GCSU's 11 runs with seven RBI.
Glanton would go on to collect the win as Trent Ringer, John Raines and Carter Barnes all threw scoreless innings in relief.
In game two, the Bobcats got off to an early lead as they scored one run in the first and five in the second. Thanks to RBI by Evan Cowan and Braeden Smith who accounted for four of those six early runs. Starting pitcher for the Fighting Knights Austin Barnao was chased out of the game after only getting four outs. He surrendered six runs on six hits and three walks in just one and a third innings pitched.
Bobcats starting pitcher Mason Brown picked up his first win of the season, throwing seven innings of one-run ball. He added two strikeouts allowing five hits.
Things got a little dicey in the top of the ninth as GCSU committed two errors, as Lynn brought the tying runner to the plate. Will Sims earned his first save as he shut that down and struck out the last batter with two outs ending all hope for the Fighting Knights.
Mitch Cowan, Phillips, J.D. Coleman and Hank Noonan each had two hits for the Bobcats in the nightcap.
