Lander edges GCSU 64-55

GREENWOOD, S.C. | Zyair Greene amassed 21 points as Georgia College & State University fell to Lander University 64-55 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at the Finis Horne Arena.

The Bobcats fell to 8-16 overall and to 3-11 in the PBC, while Lander improved to 14-9 and 8-5. GCSU battles Clayton State University Wednesday (Feb. 19) at 7:30 p.m. in Morrow, Georgia.

The Bobcats opened the night with a layup by James Nichols III and a three-pointer by Greene, followed soon after with three-pointers by Nichols and Oscar Lynch to lead Lander by four (11-7) with 13:48 remaining. GCSU reached a double-digit lead - 10 points (23-13) at the 6:59 mark of the first half from an old-fashioned three-pointer from Nichols. However, the Bearcats rallied back, putting up a 19-5 run to close the half, including a pair of three-pointers from Sebastian Augustave and Jeremiah Holloway to take the lead at 32-28.

Lander reached its double-digit lead (42-32) at the 16:54 mark of the second half from a layup from Torrin Andrews and continued the same pace of pay for the remainder of the half. GCSU attempted a comeback with three-pointers from Luke Krawczyk and Lynch, but the closest the Bobcats would get the rest of the way was five points.

Greene's team-leading 21 points were followed by Oscar Lynch (12) and Nichols (10). Nichols also finished a double-double with 12 rebounds, tied for the most on the night with Tony Carpio. Ian Davis led in assists with three, followed by Greene, Nichols III, and Aidan Kudlas with two each.
