Augusta spoils Senior Day with 89-79 win over GCSU

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. |  Khalil Green scored a career-high 33 points, but it wasn't enough as Augusta University spoiled Senior Day for Georgia College & State University as the Jaguars claimed an 89-79 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory Tuesday (Feb. 25) inside the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats dropped to 9-18 overall and to 4-13 in the PBC, while the Jaguars increased their record to 19-8 and 13-4. GCSU closes out the regular season Sunday (March 2) when they face Columbus State University at 3 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.

Thee Bobcats recognized their lone senior Dallas Clayton prior to the game.

Green connected on 9-of-15 attempts from the floor and went 13-of-13 from the charity stripe for the Bobcats.

Oscar Lynch was hot early, hitting back-to-back threes early in the first half giving the Bobcats an early lead.

With an 18-11 lead to start the game with 13 minutes left in the first half, things were looking promising for the Bobcats. That score would quickly shrink as the Jaguars closed out the first half leading at one point 47-25. Augusta would lean on John St. Germain III and Demitri Gardner who combined for 49 of their 89 points in the contest.

The Bobcats had a valent second half effort outscoring the Jaguars 46-40 thanks to plays by Lynch and Green. The Bobcats also out rebounded the Jaguars 17-15 in the second half. The Bobcats, who were 24-of-26 from the free throw line,  were a perfect 20-of-20 from the free throw line in the second half.

Lynch tied his career high with 18 points, while Clayton added 12 more. Lynch also pulled down eight rebounds for the Bobcats.
