Ben Hamacher each drove in four runs as Georgia College & State University won a baseball slugfest with Emmanuel (Ga.) University 22-10 Wednesday (Feb. 26) evening at Tommy Carey Field.
The Bobcats snapped their six-game losing streak as they improved to 6-10, while the Lions fell to 8-8. GCSU returns to John Kurtz Field this weekend to open its Peach Belt Conference schedule when they host Augusta University for a three-game series. First pitch for the opener is 5 p.m. Friday (Feb. 28).
GCSU, which had not had an extra-base hit in nearly three games, clubbed 22 hits against the Lions, including nine for extra bases. Baxter smacked two homers, while
Gabe Wuerth laced two triples.
Hank Noonan posted two doubles, while Phillips, Hamacher and
Braeden Smith stroked a double each.
The Bobcats scored in every inning, but the second. GCSU scored multiple runs in six different frames and broke the game open with a nine-run eighth inning.
Wuerth led the hit parade with four hits, while Hamacher, Smith,
Evan Cowan, Noonan and Phillips had three hits apiece. Baxter also collected two hits. Noonan and Wuerth each knocked in three runs, while Smith and
Rand Bestermann had two RBI apiece.Â
Reliever
Christian Donaldson (2-4) earned the win with four strikeouts in two innings.
