No. 18 Mount Olive gets past GCSU

LEXINGTON, S.C. | Jakhari Howard connected on two grand slams as No. 18 University of Mount Olive defeated Georgia College & State University 14-3 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday (Feb. 25) afternoon at Lexington County Stadium.

The Bobcats dropped their sixth consecutive game as they fell to 5-10, while the Trojans climbed to 10-5. GCSU returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 5 p.m. when they face Emmanuel (Ga.) University in Franklin Springs, Georgia.

The Spartans jumped out to a hasty 9-0 lead within the first two innings as Howard hit grand slams to left field in consecutive at-bats.

GCSU scored two runs in the fourth off RBI singles from Keagan Baxter and Ben Hamacher, but this only brought the score to 11-2. Mount Olive quickly erased all that progress in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs to score 14-2.  The Bobcats got their final run on a Mitch Cowan sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.

Raleigh Walker (1-1) collected the win on 2.1 innings of work; however, gave up three hits and two of the Bobcats' runs.

Gavyn Seitz (0-1) was charged with the loss, recording the first two outs of the game, but that was all, giving up three walks, one hit, and four runs.

Three Bobcats had two hits, including Gabe Wuerth, who reached base four times, Hamacher and Baxter.
