MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The Georgia College & State University picked up two wins on day two of the Round Robin Tournament Saturday (Feb. 8) afternoon at the Bobcat Softball Field.
The Bobcats opened the day with an 8-0 victory in five inning over Middle Georgia State University, which is ranked No. 23 in the NAIA preseason poll before registering a 6-0 shutout over Mars Hill University in the second game.
GCSU improved to 3-4 and will close out tournament action Sunday (Feb. 9) with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Middle Georgia State.
The Bobcats loaded the bases in the first inning against the Knights and plated three runs via a walk by Kacie Wiggins and a double by Elora Wilmot. Â
GCSU scored another another in the second via an RBI double by Karlie Gutierrez, and jumped on pitcher Emily Proctor (1-3) for four more runs in the third through three singles and doubles from Kam Caldwell and Emily Hutcheson. Â
Wilmot (1-0) would finish what she started on the defensive side of things, shutting down the Middle Georgia State offense for five innings.
Game two almost replicated the first, as GCSU scored three runs in the bottom of the first as Divina Checo put one over the fence to get the Bobcat offense started. Â
GCSU added a couple more in the second, with Hutcheson scoring on a passed ball and Caldwell making her way home through a stolen base and a Gutierrez RBI single. Checo knocked in another run on an RBI single for the final run for the Bobcats.Â
Tiffany Caban (2-1) would pitch seven shutout innings, striking out 11 and giving up one lone hit.Â
Seven different Bobcats had at least one RBI in either game, and Wilmot, Hutcheson, and Checo each collected two.Â
