MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University opened up its Peach Belt Conference men's tennis schedule with a 5-2 decision over Augusta University Tuesday (March 11) afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats, who are ranked 50th in the ITA computerized rankings, improved to 8-1 overall and to 1-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Jaguars fell to 9-4 and 0-1. GCSU starts its spring break trip with a 10 a.m. central time match against Delta State University Saturday (March 15) in Pensacola, Florida.
GCSU took a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. The Bobcats added straight set victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by
Gabe Cizek (6-3, 7-5) and
Thomas Brewer (6-2, 6-3), respectively. Augusta picked up a win at No. 3 singles, but GCSU clinched the match as
Chase Martin recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win at No. 1 singles.Â
Rodrigo Pérez Crespo earned the other Bobcat point at No. 2 singles with a hard-fought three-set win (2-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (2).
