GCSU shuts out Flagler 8-0 to even weekend series

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Georgia College & State University's Bradley Wilson and Tams Mullins combined on an 8-0 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Flagler College Saturday (March 22) afternoon at Drysdale Field.

The Bobcats improved to 16-14 overall and to 9-2 in the Peach Belt as they leveled the three-game series at one. The Saints fell to 21-7 and 7-4. The rubber game of the series is at 1 p.m. Sunday (March 23).

It was a scoreless affair until the Bobcats scored three times in the fourth inning off Flagler starter Cooper Smith (2-1).

Matthew Mebane started the rally with a two-out double to right-center before Evan Cowan and Hank Noonan both walked to load the bases. Caleb Miele followed with a two-run single to center and Noonan scored on a wild pitch.

GCSU made it 5-0 in the fifth as Braeden Smith and Mebane each drove in a run with RBI singles. An unearned run in the sixth made it 6-0 before Ben Hamacher stroked a double down the right field line two inning later for a 7-0 advantage.

The Bobcats added a final run in the ninth on a Noonan sacrifice fly.

Wilson (5-1) earned the win as he scattered eight hits and two walks over eight scoreless innings, while Mullins secured the shutout with a scoreless ninth.

Mebane led the Bobcats with three hits, while Gabe Wiuerth and Hamacher had two hits apiece. Mebane had two doubles, while Hamacher had one.
