Bobcats take series with 7-3 win in finale with Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Every starter for the Georgia College & State University baseball team collected at least one hit as the Bobcats defeated Flagler College 7-3 in a Peach Belt Conference game Sunday (March 23) afternoon at Drysdale Field.

The Bobcats took their fourth consecutive PBC series by winning two of the three games from Flagler as they improved to 17-14 overall and to 10-2 in the PBC, while the Saints fell to 21-8 and 7-5. GCSU returns to action Tuesday (March 25) with a 4 p.m. contest against Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia.

Flagler scored three runs in the first inning, but the Bobcats stormed back with seven runs over the next four innings to take a 7-3 lead. 

Ben Hamacher got GCSU in the scoring column in the second with an RBI-single to left field. The Bobcats tied the game at 3 with two runs in the third inning. Caleb Miele had a run-scoring single through the left side and Evan Cowan came around to score on a wild pitch.

The Bobcats broke the game open with three runs in the fourth to open up a 6-3 advantage. Gabe Wuerth broke the tie when he scored on a passed ball and Cowan laced a two-run double down the left field line.

GCSU added an insurance run in the fifth on a fielder's choice by Hamacher.

Mason Brown improved to 5-0 as he allowed just two earned runs in seven innings.

Wuerth, Hamacher, Matthew Mebane. Cowan and Carson Phillips each led the Bobcats with two hits apiece as they collected 14 as a team.
