DUE WEST, S.C. | No. 48 Georgia College & State University downed No. 30 Erskine College 5-2 in a non-conference women's tennis match Thursday (March 27) afternoon at the Sloan-Cox Tennis Courts.
The Bobcats improved to 13-2, while the Flying Fleet fell to 9-4. GCSU returns to action Sunday (March 30) with a 2 p.m. match against Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia.
GCSU claimed the final two doubles matches, including a 7-6 (3) victory by
Ashley Bentz and
Shradha Chhabra at No. 3, to take a 1-0 lead.
Chhabra won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles sandwiched around wins from Erskine at No. 2 and 3 singles to tie the match at 2. A 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles by
Victoria Conde Vendrell gave the lead back to GCSU at 3-2. The Bobcats clinched the match as
Chiara Santoro rallied for a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Santoro dropped the first set 6-3, but came back to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-1.
Rachel Black closed out the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win for GCSU at No. 4 singles.
