Barsby picks up 700th career win as No. 36 Bobcats edge Valdosta State 4-3

VALDOSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University won four singles matches as the No. 36 Bobcats rallied for a 4-3 win over Valdosta State University in a non-conference women's tennis victory Friday (April 18) afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats wrapped up their regular season at 14-5, while the Blazers slipped to 5-13. GCSU will return to action Friday (April 25) at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in Columbus, Georgia. Pairings for the tournament will be released Monday (April 21).

GCSU head coach Steve Barsby notched his 700th career victory in the process, Barsby, who has been the head coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs at GCSU since 2000, has a 700-480 mark (.593 winning percentage) as head coach. Barbsy has won 663 matches at GCSU with the other 37 victories coming during his two seasons at Troy University.

Valdosta State earned the doubles point, but GCSU took a 2-1 lead as the Blazers defaulted the No. 6 singles match and Natalie Kirka earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Valdosta State tied the match at 2 on a win at No. 1 singles, before Ashley Bentz and Jada Young picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles to clinch the match. Bentz earned a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Young claimed her match at 7-6 (3), 6-4.
