No. 25 Lander holds off No. 31 GCSU 4-2 in first round of PBC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga. | No. 25 Lander University rallied to win four singles matches as they outlasted No. 31 Georgia College & State University 4-2 in a first round match of the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Friday (April 25) morning at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.

The Bearcats, who are the fourth seed in the tournament, improved to 12-6, while the fifth-seeded Bobcats fell to 13-6. GCSU, who is ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division II regional rankings, will now wait until the NCAA Division II Tournament field is announced May 5 at 8 p.m. to see if the Bobcats earn one of the five at-large berths in the Southeast region.

GCSU came out and took two of the three doubles matches to open up a 1-0 lead. All-Peach Belt performers Rodrigo Pérez Crespo and Chase Martin earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 while All-PBC standout Luka Sauer Jimenez along with Noé Villen registered a 6-4 decision at No. 2.

Lander swept the first three singles matches that were decided to take a 3-1 lead before the Bobcats got a point back on Crespo's straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2. However, the Bearcats clinch the match when Brendan Jayaprakash rallied for 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
