MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Kaisa Fagerström scored two consecutive goals in the second half as Georgia College & State University defeated Valdosta State University 4-0 en route to its first victory of the new season on Thursday (Sept. 11) afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Field.
The Bobcats collected their first victory of the year, moving to 1-2-1, while the Blazers fell to 0-1-2. GCSU returns Sunday (Sept. 14) at 11 a.m. with a contest against Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.
Mackenzly Cheely opened up the scoring for the Bobcats as she registered the first goal of the 2025 season for the Bobcats. Cheely's goal in the upper right corner of the net in the 15th minute came off a deep throw in from Sarah Mason.
However, it wouldn't be until the second half that the Bobcats scored again, as Fagerström headed in a corner kick from the the left side from Jenni Järventaus just three minutes into the second half. Twelve minutes later the duo connected again on a similar play to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
Mason concluded the scoring in the 65th minute as she knocked in a rebound off Brittany Bakke's initial shot that the Valdosta State goalkeeper couldn't coral.
The Bobcats held a 15-10 advantage in shots, including a 10-5 margin on goal. GCSU, which also had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks, registered its second shutout of the year. Maddie Drake (three saves) and Sarah Charney (two saves) combined on the clean sheet.
