Bobcats sweep pair of matches at Valdosta State Tournament

VALDOSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University bounced back in a big way, winning both contests on the final day of the Valdosta State Tournament Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at The Complex.  

The Bobcats went to five sets in their victory over Valdosta State University. GCSU won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22 before the Blazers won the next two sets 25-22 and 25-10. GCSU claimed the win with a 15-13 victory in the deciding fifth set. GCSU closed out the tournament with a 25-21, 25-8, 20-25 and 25-21 win over Shorter University.  

GCSU improved to 5-3 and they will return to action Friday (Sept. 19) with a 1 p.m. Central time contest against the University of West Alabama and a 4 p.m. Central time contest against the United States Sports Academy in Livingston, Alabama.  

Avery Huyck led the Bobcats with 13 kills against Valdosta State, while Kaylee Weeks added 11 and Camryn Carlton had 10 more. Sadie Parkerson and Lexi Baum had 15 and 12 assists, respectively. Alanis Bernis collected another 17 digs to add to her season numbers, and Parkerson had 15 of her own.  Hayley Shepherd led GCAU with six total blocks and Carlton posted five.

Huyck led in kills in the contest against the  Hawks, having 10 kills, while Carlton and Weeks had nine kills each. Parkerson contributed a whopping 25 assists, and Riese Johnson supplied 14 more. Bernis collected another 29 digs, while Huyck tallied 16. Emersyn Mullvain led the Bobcats with five total blocks.
