MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University defeated Clayton State University 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference women's soccer opener Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon at Bobcat Field.
The Bobcats improved to 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference, while the Lakers fell to 1-3-1 and 0-1-0. GCSU returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 24) at 7 p.m. on the road against Georgia Southwestern State in Americus, Ga.
GCSU scored twice in each half, with goals from
Tessa Balsman,
Sarah King,
Mia Palumbo, and
Sarah Mason. The Bobcats outshot the Lakers 17-4, including an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal.
The match was interrupted by lightning twice, with the game ending after the second delay at nine minutes remaining in the second half.
Clayton State recorded just one corner kick compared to eight for GCSU. Goalkeeper
Kassidy Fortin recorded one save in the net to secure the shutout for the Bobcats.
