BELMONT, N.C. | Belmont Abbey College defeated Georgia College & State University 1-0 in the 2025 women's soccer season opener Thursday (Sept. 4) evening at Alumni Field.
The Crusaders improved to 1-0-0, while the Bobcats dropped to 0-1-0. GCSU will return to action at 3 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 7) when they face Lincoln Memorial University in a neutral-site match at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Belmont Abbey broke the scoreless tie on a goal from Haley Long at the 47:42 mark, shortly after an extended halftime due to a lightning delay.
The Bobcats were outshot 3-1 in the first half but responded with a 6-2 advantage in the second half.
Abbey Eison accounted for three of the team's seven shots, with one shot on goal.
Alayna Cobb followed with two shots, and
Emily Agi and
Sarah King each contributed one.
Goalkeeper
Kassidy Fortin recorded one save for the Bobcats.
