COCHRAN, Ga. | James Nichols III continues his dominance in conference play with a 21-point performance as Georgia College & State University overpowered Middle Georgia State University 75-61 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday (Jan. 28) night in Morris Gymnasium.
The Bobcats repeat with a consecutive double-digit victory, climbing to 13-7 and 8-4 in the conference, while the Knights fell to 7-11 and 3-9. GCSU returns with another road contest, facing the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Wednesday (Feb. 4) at 7:30 p.m. in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The match started neck-and-neck through the first four minutes, with teams trading blows until the game was tied at 7; however, the Bobcats, after a Luke Krawczyk jumper of an assist from C.J. Jones, started to take control.Â
A 10-0 run, finished with layups from Devin McClain and Nichols, gave the Bobcats plenty of momentum. GCSU held this momentum into the end of the half, as a jump shot from Tony Carpio put the Bobcats up 36-16 at the 20-minute split in the contest.Â
The fire in the Bobcats did not dwindle entering the second half, as Nichols contributed five points within the first minute from a pair of free throws and a three-pointer off an assist from Khalil Green. Green later made his own three-pointer, and the Bobcats quickly led 50-27.Â
While Nichols led the Bobcats in scoring, Carpio and Green followed shortly with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Conyer Smith led the Bobcats on the glass, with seven, with Carpio and Nichols collecting six apiece. Jones assisted six times.Â
