Bobcats checkmate Knights 2-1 with late goal by Wells

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.. | KJ Wells's goal with just over 11 minutes remaining was the difference as Georgia College & State University recorded a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference women's soccer victory over Middle Georgia State University Saturday (Oct. 3) evening at the Bobcat Soccer Field on Family Weekend.

The Bobcats ran their unbeaten streak to seven matches (5-0-2) as they improved to 6-2-2 overall and remained in first place in the PBC at 4-0-0. The Knights fell to 2-9-1 and 0-5-1. GCSU returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 7) at 7 p.m. when they face the University of South Carolina-Aiken in a PBC match at the USCA Soccer Stadium in Aiken, South Carolina.

GCSU outshot Middle Georgia 28-3, including an 11-1 margin on goal. The Bobcats finally took a 1-0 lead at the 38:06 mark when Grace Ammon, who was making her first appearance for the Bobcats, scored her first goal of 2026. Kat Wilber passed it to Madelyn Heckathorn, who passed it all the way through to box to Ammon, who slotted the ball in at the left post.

The Knights tied the match at 1 in the 65th minute as Eliza Telford collected a loose ball at the top of the box on the right side and found the back of the net. It was her first goal of the season.

Wells scored the match-winning goal at the 78:16 mark when Lillie Sheffield played the ball from the left side to Mackenzly Cheely, who crossed it to Wells at the top of the boc. Wells then fired a blast into the back of the net. It was her first goal of the campaign.

GCSU had a 7-1 advantage on corner kicks.
