MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University picked up a 6-1 non-conference men's tennis victory over Newberry College Tuesday (Feb. 10) afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Courts.

The Bobcats improved to 2-0, while the Wolves remained winless in four tries. GCSU travels to Hartsville, South Carolina, Thursday (Feb. 12) for a noon matinee against Coker University.

GCSU wasted little time taking the doubles point as the Bobcats took the first two flights. Chase Martin and Finn O'Neill won 6-1 at No. 1, while Braxton Wright and Jakob Andergassen took a 6-3 decision at No. 2.

The Bobcats doubled their lead as Manoel Guimaraes won at No. 6 singles without dropping a game. Newberry got a point back at No. 3 singles, but O'Neill dropped the first set 6-2 before winning sets two and three 6-2 to win at No. 4 singles. GCSU clinched the win when Wright recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 5. GCSU closed out the victory with three-set decision in the top two flights of singles. David Muñoz Botia won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 2 before Martin claimed a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9) victory at No.1.
