Balanced attack leads GCSU to 75-68 homecoming win over GSW

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | C.J. Jones led a balanced attack as Georgia College & State University defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 75-68 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon as the Bobcats celebrated Homecoming inside the Centennial Center.

Jones led the Bobcats with 18 points, while Tony Carpio added 14 more. Oscar Lynch and Khalil Green rounded out the quartet as they each tossed in 13 points.Carpio nearly recorded a double double as he pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while Jones distributed six assists.

GCSU improved to 16-10 overall and to 11-7 in the Peach Belt, while Georgia Southwestern fell to 16-10 and 9-9. The Bobcats now face their final week of the regular season on road, starting Wednesday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Greenwood, South Carolina, for a 7:30 p.m. game against Lander University.

The Hurricanes got off to a quick start at 14-8 after an Amir Reeves free throw with 14:29 left in the first half. The Bobcats rallied and took a 19-18 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play from Carpio with 5:54 remaining.  That play started a 9-0 run by the Bobcats that saw GCSU take a 32-27 lead at the half.

Georgia Southwestern tied the game at 48 on a Deonte Williams three-pointer with 12:07 to play, but a three-pointer from Cam James gave the Bobcats the lead for good and jumpstarted a 25-10 run that saw GCSU open up a 15-point lead (73-58) after a layup by Jones with 3:39 to play.
